Still feeling a twinge of sadness at Julia Child’s passing, but then tonight I see a little of a 2002 interview she did with Larry King and she has me guffawing within seconds.
What made me laugh: Larry King is asking her: Don’t you want some great dish to be named after you? And Julia says there is a tomato that has been named after her and she is delighted by that. Then Larry goes on about Well, how about the Julia Child Salad? Would you like to have a salad named after you? And Julia says Well, instead I would take a nice slice of white bread, and slather it with Hellman’s mayonnaise, and put big thick slices of Julia Child tomatoes on top. And I would eat it with a fork and knife, and it would be called The Julia Child Tomato Sammich. (And she definitely did not say “Sandwich”, she said SAMMICH.)
Yum. My favorite, too. Gosh, she was a smashing old broad. I wanna be just like her when I grow up.
