The ones I got recently were from Sevilla, wrapped in wax paper- and were very bitter,
so much so that I wondered if they were poisoned. Previously the same brand of product
was wonderful. Will try to make my own, maybe...

Hi Lisa: Oh no! That's unfortunate. I really wonder what's going on with the Ines Rosales company -- I don't see their tortas de aceite in my local grocery store anymore, but the store IS stocking another brand -- Mitica -- also made in Sevilla, also wrapped in wax paper ....Wonder what's up with that?! Anyway, thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy your homemade tortas de aceite. Mmmmmmmm!! :)

Thanks for the recipe! I just found these in my local store and decided to give them a try. Unfortunately they must have been stored incorrectly, as there was a very bitter taste about them-- probably the anise seeds going rancid. But they were yummy enough for me to quickly figure out that these would be delicious to make fresh- and now I can!

1 T means 1 tablespoon.

I mixed the dry yeast with the other ingredients and then added the warm water. They turned out fine -- but I'm not really sure if we're supposed to do it that way or if I just got lucky?

Buena suerte! They really are delicious. :)

Thanks! Have wanted this recipe for ages. Can you tell me _does 1 T mean 1 teaspoon or tablespoon and also do you add the yeast (presumably dried) straight to the mixture or do you have to mix it with the warm water first? Thanks again!
