What Jeff said, Chris.
Also: Chris, where are you getting your "facts"? The Frankenstein (actually "Franken-stin" -- the voter had filled in the oval for Franken and written in -STIN after Franken's name) vote did go to Franken, but the Lizard People vote did not.
You might want to avoid getting your recount talking points from Limbaugh, Coulter and the WSJ editorial board, none of whom have offered any proof whatsoever for their histrionic claims that Franken is "stealing" this election. Like everyone else, they need to either prove it or STFU. (Yeah, like that's gonna happen.)

Chris, no he isn't. We have ballots that are machine-counted because it's faster, but at the end of the day, Minnesota law says that the purpose of a ballot is to show the voter's intent.

Voting is NOT a standardized test. We don't penalize people who are not used to filling in scantron ballots. Once we start that, where do we stop? Perhaps I could say that I think only those with a graduate degree are smart enough to be allowed to make this important decision for our state.

Isn't Senator Day right though? We have ballots designed to be counted by machines. We do this because machines are much faster and more accurate than sitting down at tables and counting ballots by hand. Considering that there are posters telling people how to mark the ballot, and half a dozen election workers present to give assistance to those who don't understand or aren't able to fill in the ovals, Day is right on the money.

Furthermore, how can we know the intent of a voter who votes for Frankenstein or Lizard People, which were counted as votes for Al Franken? How can we know the intent of a voter who colors in the ovals for everyone else on the ballot, but crosses out the oval next to Franken's name (also counted as a vote for Franken.)?

This is essentially the same problem as the Florida recount with the dimpled chads, the hanging chads, etc.
