Well the current manager is a former NYYankees catcher, and three other Yankees catchers have helmed the team (Berra, Dickey, Houk).
Buck Showalter was a former NYY minor leaguer, Bucky Dent was a shortstop, Lou Piniella was an outfielder, Billy Martin was a second baseman, and Gene Michael was a shortstop.
But I have no clue how many ex-Yankees became managers for other teams. Here’s a list of everyone who’s ever worn pinstripes:
I’m guessing there are some former 1 basemen who went on to manage. Chris Chambliss managed in AA, and is the hitting coach for the Reds. Don Mattingly works with Yankee players as a special instructor.
Oh, I so want to print that out on good cardstock.
NY Yankee fans are the Ayn Rands of the sports world.
And Cresco natives are the designated hitters/first basemen of life.
But they can lay down a bunt with the best of them.
Which X-Yankees have become major league managers? Any first basemen?
