UPDATE:
To sum it all up, I had a terrific time in Rochester last Saturday, even tho sitting in Bloggers Row all day left me mildly dehydrated and without any feeling in my legs … and with the sad realization that I can’t live-blog for shit.
Good thing the other kids don’t have that problem. All hail the mighty powers of the Powerliberals, DFLSenate, MN Publius, Minvolved, Centrisity. MN Campaign Report,U-DFL, s4xton, Minnesota Left, and, uhh, sorry if I forgot anybody. You all did great.
I must also mention the surprisingly affable Michael Brodkorb of MDE, who had the rotten luck to sit next to fat old cranky Me all day in the extremely cramped quarters up in the peanut gallery. Me, as in: me borrowing his laptop riser… me tripping over his power cords… me elbowing him in the face every five minutes…
Forget every icky thing you’ve heard about him — to put up with my obnoxiousness the guy’s gotta be a living saint!
I also very much enjoyed the theatrical entertainment he and his hangers-on put on for our benefit all afternoon. It really made those long between-ballots interludes fly by. The bit went like this: Some “complete stranger” sitting behind Brodkorb would say, in a very loud voice, with superb enunciation :
“Say! Wasn’t that you I heard on [Radio Wingnut] last week?” or
“Wow! Has anybody else asked you for your autograph so far today?” or
“Gee! Is that article in the Rochester paper about you?”
I kept waiting to hear:
“Golly Mister Brodkorb, what makes you so awesome?”
..but then the DFLers inconveniently decided to endorse Hatch and that was the end of the lovefest.
And a lovefest it truly was, too. As Jon-David of MN Publius observed:
“Saturday, 6:45pm If you’re wondering exactly how wired in to the GOP structure Michael Brodkorb is, GOP State Chair Ron Carey has been sitting directly behind him all day. Miraculously, MDE has Carey’s statement about 2 minutes after Hatch won the endorsement. Can you say complete and total tool? Web-based mouthpiece in full.”
Now, now. There’s no need to be mean. That’s what we have Republicans for.
