How’d this thing get started, again? Oh yeah, that’s right:

Senator Day’s recent defense of the ability of machines to read a voter’s marks on a ballot, versus the citizen’s right to have his or her vote counted in an election, was caught in an alarming video…

Not that I’m complaining, mind you. This isn’t the first time we’ve had a little fun with the public image of the right honorable senator from Owatonna.

I’m confident that even with his true mechanical nature now exposed, Senator Day still is sure of where his ultimate allegiance lies . Or pretty sure.

Just to be on the safe side: Senator Day, if this guy ever shows up, whatever he asks — just say ”No!”, okay?

Physicians Against Nutrition

Dr. Brian Davis comes out against food stamps, school lunches and other outrageous “entitlements” in the Farm Bill.

Ollie Ox at Bluestem Prairie has all the meaty details, from soup to nuts.

Dr. Davis, one of the founding members of a new PAC named Physicians Against Nutrition , was asked for a quote to accompany this article. He wisely intoned:

“The mission statement for Physicians Against Nutrition reinterprets the age-old creed of the healer to speak to the needs of the 21st century ward heeler, to whit: First do no harm …to my pocketbook, dammit!”

Ahh. Food for thought indeed.

Great Moments of 2007: Dick Day’s Run For The Border

Tild sez: December has been a hectic and exhausting month for me, no doubt as it’s been for a lot of you. Haven’t felt like posting a damn thing, but I have been reading my usual 60 or 70 daily RSS feeds and as always there’s some hugely entertaining stuff out there.
Case in point: A Bluestem Prairie has had some great posts lately about [Republican MN State Senator and would-be Tim Walz challenger] Dick Day’s recent trip to Arizona to hobnob with his good buddies the Minutemen. As busy as I’ve been — with the two jobs, the two angst-ridden teenagers, the one depressed spouse, the one house’s (crumbling) infrastructure, the ten burned fingers from the marathon krumkakke baking — the photographic evidence of this grand excursion was just too much for a shameless old picture-tweaker like me to resist. Twas the Night Before…

Well, that’s it. I’m exhausted. Maybe I can come up with a few more stanzas tomorrow, but for now that’s all I got.

Regular readers may have noticed a lack of posting here for a few days. I’ve been taking some time off… 6 days in a row; it’ll be the longest continuous time away from my job I’ve had all year. So far I’ve been frittering away my time staying up til 3am watching crappy old movies and studying Paint Shop Pro tutorials, and then sleeping til after 11am. Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!

It’s been really really relaxing, actually. Today I finally did something productive for the first time since Friday: I brought my horrible 9 year old Ford Exploder to the local Quickylube and got a couple hundred bucks of scheduled maintenance and winterizing done, then met a VOF (Very Old Friend) in Uptown for lunch at the Lotus and a cup of pistachio gelato and an afternoon of bookstore crawling and pissing and moaning about our endlessly tedious twilight years. Heaven, I tell ya.

But that’s all over now. Enough of this mindless hedonism. For me tonight, the schedule is: off to bed at 10, with the alarm set for 4:45 am. I’ll be at my polling place well before 7, just in case there’s a line. (There will be; there always is.)

Then I’ll toss into the back of the ‘Sploder 6 bags of power bagels and 10# of honey crisp apples that I’m donating for the care and feeding of my fellow GOTV door-knockers, and I’ll be off to the Hopkins DFL office for an Election Day spent roaming the highways and byways of the 3rd CD.
