Housekeeping, etcetera

Some of you have been noticing the new additions to our rotating header image gallery here at Tildology.   As you may remember, the theme is Women Holding Up Fruit (on produce crate labels).  You can see our two latest entries in their original settings on crate lebels for Fairy brand apples and Columbia Belle brand [...]

Shocking discovery: Arab crate labels!

Who knew?  Who noticed?   Why, after all we were only shopping.   Yet there they’ve been, for at least as far back as the 1920s:   Lurking in plain sight at the street vendor’s stall.  Brazenly visible at the neighborhood grocer.  Skulking in the supermarket produce aisle.  Worming their way into the everyday life [...]

Of recursive crate labels and rotating headers

Found another one!   It’s the latest in my growing collection of Droste effect crate labels.  It’s a dandy too, isn’t it?  And such clever marketing:  I know that whenever I think of grapefruit I always think “Mike”.   Pure genius.
Staying on the subject of crate labels, I’ll bet you’ve been noticing the new set of [...]

More Blog Crate Labels

Here we go again, with the 2nd installment in our ongoing series of original crate label art for blogs…
First we have a label for The Curmudgeon over at the Pubhouse Dialogues. True to his ornery nature, the Curmudgeon’s crate label advertises produce known for its astringence, bitterness and complexity. You probably don’t know what they [...]

Lesser known brands

In my ceaseless trolling for crate label art I’ve occasionally been stopped in my tracks by a label that’s so unusual, or so JPW (just plain weird) that I have to wonder: What the hell were the makers thinking?
The height of  the  crate label art heyday  lasted from the 1920’s through the 1950’s.  Obviously our perceptions [...]

Local Produce: Blog Crate Labels

Nope, not too much text with this post either. Mostly I’ll let the crate labels for these well known blog brands speak for themselves…
1.The fabulous (and peripatetic) Minnesota Observer. She is the genuine article. Accept no substitutes!

2. Actually I call him “Disco Stoo“, but that’ll have to wait [...]

Some pictures, not too much text

Hi-ho kids. Oooh, what are the odds? It’s an actual blogpost by everyone’s favorite Auntie Tild!
I’ve been on vacation since July 4th, enjoying the longest uninterrupted stretch of days away from work that I’ve had in…probably 3 years.
My initial plan for at least part of this week was to go up to the Valley for [...]

another Droste effect crate label

Ooh. Nice one, isn’t it? Added to my previous discoveries, this makes five crate labels I’ve found that exhibit the Droste effect. In my world this constitutes a major cause for celebration!

Whither Thou, Tild? Part 2

Hello again, Tild fans! It is I, your humble ITTR (Imaginary Typical Tildology Reader) here for another foray into the hidden world of our eccentric, seldom-updating blogmistress Tild.
When we last checked in on the old coot Tild she was rambling on about something called a “day job” that seems to eat up most of her [...]

Say Goodbye to 2006

It’s been a good day for vegetating here in the remote fortress of Tildebunkport. It rained all day til it changed over to snow in the early afternoon and now we’ve gotten our first serious snowfall of 2006, just in time for 2007.
We’ve been too unmotivated today to have a sit down dinner around a [...]
